Girl Who Played The “One Of The Boys” Card To Woo Her New Boyfriend Has Some Pretty Serious Backtrac

When Lily Scott (28) first laid eyes on Aiden Jones (29) she lost her breath for a second. He is a very tidy-looking chap. He is gorgeous and funny but aloof. At every social function, he’ll be in some separate room watching sport with the boys. Lily knew it would take some wicked sorcery to get to know him at all, let alone date him.

Lily grew up with a couple of brothers. So while she may not love sport, she has gleaned enough buzzwords and random sport facts to fake it pretty well. And so she embarked on a rather bold strategy.

She made her way to the tv room at a friend’s barbie.

“Hey guys. Watching the one-dayer? What’s the required run rate?”

To her absolute joy, it was Aiden who responded.

“5.2 an over from here.”

“We should be right if we keep wickets in hand.” Holy shit she was doing it. She couldn’t believe how convincing she was sounding. She could feel the boys, and most importantly Aiden, embracing her as one of their own.

And it gave her the opportunity she needed. She and Aiden bonded that evening and it has now blossomed into the infancy of a pretty promising relationship.

She explained that the “one of the boys” angle is a highly underrated strategy.

“The reason it usually doesn’t work is because those girls usually actually look like one of the boys. It’s a tactic normally employed by girls trying to bat a full two or three marks out of ten above their station. But if it’s used merely as a way to get to know someone, it can turn a tiny chance into a real possibility.”

But now she has some really serious expectation-management on her hands. And it’s a very delicate operation. She can’t just announce “By the way, I hate sport and was just trying to bullshit you into dating me.”

She explained her predicament:

“Yeah so he thinks we’re watching all of the Super Saturday NRL matches this weekend, then staying up for the Champions League soccer. My plan is to enthusiastically watch one match, then suggest that we watch his favourite movie.”

Lily acknowledges that it’s going to take months to restore the balance. But it’s worth it. This guy is hot.
