In 2009, Matthew Johns was a very popular co-host of the NRL Footy Show and Channel Nine's darling. But when the public discovered that he was involved in consensual group sex seven years earlier, they wanted blood.

Such was the pressure mounted on Channel 9 that they ended up indefinitely standing Johns down from both his role as a commentator and his previously very popular position as co-host of the NRL Footy Show. Some would say that was a fairly harsh punishment for a regrettable but entirely legal action that took place seven years earlier.

It certainly raises the question as to how the public would react if they ever Googled Boy George.

George Alan O’Dowd, better known as Boy George, is one of the four judges on Nine’s The Voice, which remains one of their highest rating family-friendly programs.

So what did he do? On 16 January 2009, the same year as Johns’ indiscretion, he was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment for a crime committed against Auden Carlson.

Carlson was a Norwegian male escort. George invited him to his home in Shoreditch, East London. When Carlson attended George’s home, They had a naked photo session and took cocaine.

George and an accomplice then produced whips and sex toys and allegedly stated “Now you’ll get what you deserve.”

They then proceeded to handcuff Carlson to a wall fixture and beat him with a metal chain. Very thankfully, Carlson escaped by wrenching the fixture free. However, George continued to beat him as he made his escape from the property into the street. It is obviously troubling to consider how the event would have concluded had he not escaped.

We spoke to Ginger Gyngington (42), a representative of the Nine Network. She advised us that there is no concern about a public backlash.

“If a man is chained up and beaten with metal chains in the forest and no one hears it, then was anyone really chained up and beaten with metal chains at all? I say no. And so far, so good. It appears no one has googled him yet. But if they do? Yeah we’re fucked. It’s not going to play well in the suburbs. It’ll put the Matty Johns affair to shame.”

So, for Nine’s sake, please don’t google “Boy George dungeon crime”.
