”We’re on level 8 if you’d like to just drop it up there hahahaha.”

Delivering alcohol is not a bad job for a young bloke. You meet lots of nice people, and you're always on the move. But there is one aspect of the job that is crushing the spirits of these young people, and seeing them leave the workforce in droves.
For these deliverers, if it is a particularly small order, they may be carrying a case in their hands. For larger orders, they are pushing a trolley or something like that. By their very nature, they are conspicuous. People always notice what they are delivering.
And so it is to some degree not a surprise that they would receive the occasional comment. But they are never prepared for just how many strangers make the same predictable joke. And it's affecting their mental health.
Nate Douglas (23) is a fit young guy, who delivers alcohol on behalf of Regan's Cellars. He told us that he keeps edging closer and closer to breaking point every time he hears it.
"So this morning I jump in a lift and press level 12, because I have to deliver a large booze order to some advertising agency. And some douche canoe presses the level 10 button and says 'We could probably use that booze if you wanna just drop it on Level 10'."
"He then gave me the same look that they all give me. It's a look that indicates they think they have just said the funniest fucken thing that any human being has ever said. It's difficult for me to explain to you how much I want to belt them when they do that smile. But so far I've resisted."
Nate informed The Tribune that he will soon be calling it quits on a job that he otherwise enjoys very much, and the sole reason is the joke. We inquired as to whether he might be overreacting.
"Yeah people say that to me. I've even had my mates tell me to get over it because the joke is kind of funny. And if I'm honest I probably chuckled the first time someone said it. But I'm done. I can't take it any more."
A recent workplace satisfaction survey conducted by Quatergate shows that a whopping 82% of workers in the industry consider it a "significant issue" and of them 62% consider that their mental health has been adversely affected. Thr only comparable industry is inner-city pizza deliverers, who anecdotally suffer a very similar problem.
This is not an issue that looks like going away any time soon. As long as there are lame pathetic wannabe comedians, alcohol deliverers will continue to suffer.
