"As predicted, all the boys have to wear dresses to school and kiss each other."
Exactly one year ago to the day, the NO campaign was launched in the lead-up to Australia's historic vote to legalise Same-Sex Marriage. While the ads are famous for not actually saying why gay people shouldn't marry each other, they did make some predictions.
The No Campaign spent twice as much money as the YES campaign. It pretty-much exclusively used female voices in the ads, presumably to soften the message. But the message still remained strong and effective, including an outline of the dystopian future that awaited us if the legislation passed.
And they could not have been more right. Not long after the legislation was passed, Tony Abbott was forced to attend a gay wedding. And not just any gay wedding. His sister's wedding! If they had the power to force that on Tony, one of the campaign's strongest figures, what the hell kind of chance did the rest of us have?
One of the most prominent of the NO campaign's advertising ladies was Dr Pansy Lai. Pansy is a supporter of "gay conversion therapy", and had significant concerns about the legalisation of same-sex marriage. In respect of boys wearing dresses at school, Dr Lai looked at overseas examples and expressed this valid concern:
"When same-sex marriage passes as law overseas, this type of program becomes widespread and compulsory."
And exactly one year on from the launch, she couldn't have been more right. Sure, there may have been some mental health benefits to the gay community. And they can now marry the love of their life should they choose to do so. But the humiliation of people like Dr Lai sending their sons off to school in dresses has been a horrendous after-effect.
Dr Lai understands that all school children, again as predicted in the NO Campaign's ads, are being forced to role-play homosexual relations at school virtually every day. And she understands that a lot of those otherwise heterosexual children are now gay themselves because of it.
The NO campaign has now been vindicated completely, with all of our lives turned upside down because of a vocal minority. However, it may be too late now to unscramble the Same Sex Marriage egg. We can now expect all of our kids to become gay over the next decade or so.
