The trendy young couple spend several hours strolling through the markets, chatting to vendors and each other about fresh produce. They then reluctantly decided to get the usual.
Richie and Candice Cummins ventured to their local organic markets this morning, as they do from time to time. It has a wonderful, wholesome, friendly family vibe and it makes for a very pleasant morning.
They spent a good few hours strolling the markets, looking at beautiful fresh produce and trying to decide what to eat. Richie was tossing up between a vegan tofu salad that looked delicious and a fresh and a delicious soy stir fry. Candice was thinking a yoghurt with berries would be amazing.
As time went on, however, a familiar but unwelcome thought started intruding. Yes- all that organic and fresh produce looked so lovely. And they felt very cosmopolitan and fancy as they strolled around considering each item carefully and discussing the various nutrients to be found within each superfood. But as the morning progressed, and they got a little hungrier, they noticed a delightful smell wafting from a tent nearby.
It was a very familiar smell. The smell that only the traditional savoury Turkish flatbread known as Gozleme could emit.
Richie explains that he was virtually powerless against its charms.
"Honestly I spent several hours with terrific intentions of buying and eating something wholesome and nutritious. But I hadn't made my decision before it was too late. One whiff and I was stuffed. It didn't even feel like a conscious decision. I just kind of floated over to the tent like a Disney character smelling a pie. I hadn't even processed what was happening when I uttered the words 'one spinach and feta thanks'. Before I knew it I was sitting on a milk crate smashing it down and seriously contemplating getting another. Gozleme? More like Guzzle-Me Hahaha."
Candice admits she wasn't far behind.
"I was seriously planning on being good. Like old mate over here, I could certainly smell the Turkish treats, but I had decided I wasn't going to give in if he didn't. But then he pretty much sprinted over there and got one. I'm not exactly going to eat rabbit food right next to a man who's destroying one of those. That's pretty much torture."
They then made a promise to themselves. A promise they make nearly every week. Next time, they're going to actually get some organic produce from the markets. Not just admire it before getting "the usual".
