Nan Refers To Shopping Centre By Name It Hasn’t Had For 30 Years.

“Hey darl. Could you pop down to Arndale and grab some meat for tonight’s barbecue?”

“Uh yeah. I’ll pop to WESTFIELD in a few minutes.”

Betty Asker  is having her children and the tribe of grandkids over for a barbecue tonight. Pretty much everything is prepared, and she is just sorting out a few last-minute items.

Her daughter Alice has shown up early to help out.

Betty realised they needed some extra steaks and chicken for the barbie, and asked Alice if she could pop to the shops to grab some more.

“Darling, could you pop to Arndsle and grab some more supplies?” asked Betty to her very confused daughter.

“Oh my god mum. Seriously?! It hasn’t been called Arndale since before I was born just about. Nobody else in the entire world still calls it that. It changed its name like 25 years ago to the Shopping Grove, and now it’s just a Westfield. Seriously mum how do you not know that?”

But it is not that simple.

Betty is aware that it is a Westfield. However, many years ago, when the name was originally changed from Arndale, she just plain decided that it was a habit that she didn’t feel like breaking. And she had a theory- No matter how much time passed, people would still know exactly what she meant. So why change?

Fair call. She’s also a mad Queensland State of Origin fan, and can’t wait for the first match at Lang Park next week. And you know exactly what she means by that.
