“So yeah I put $100 on the Panthers this weekend. Also whacked a few bucks on the All Blacks to smash the Boks. Yeah I lost almost a grand this weekend. And people have a right to know about it. It would be misleading to just post about my successful multis and good fortune.”
Darren Lewis lost a lot of money this weekend via online gambling.
He had a really strong feeling that that the Panthers were due for a win. But they weren’t. They got done pretty easily. He also liked the odds on offer for the All Blacks to smash South Africa. So he loaded up on them. But that bet failed miserably as well.
He also fired up a ridiculous list of multis that failed spectacularly. In fact, some of his multis failed in every singe leg. He had an absolute stinker. He also lost a few bucks at the casino on Saturday night.
Every little feeling that he had turned out to be horseshit. So, like every good gambler does, he jumped on Facebook to let everyone know. As he explained, he felt it was his duty.
“Well last week I posted a picture of me with a print-off of a winning trifecta at the races. People all liked it and commented and stuff. It was great. So it’s obviously now my duty to also disclose all my really dumb bets that cost me heaps of money this weekend, easily outweighing my winnings last week. That would then paint the full picture. I presume everyone else does that too.”
It is because of this willingness to honestly reveal their losses, as well as winnings, that makes it so impressive when gamblers show off their successful bets on social media.
We caught up with Darren’s best mate Robbo, who couldn’t agree more.
“Yeah I totally get what Darren’s saying. And I myself would post up my stupid losses if I had any. But honestly, nearly everything I bet on pays off. So that’s why I mostly post pictures of my wins. I’m just really good at it.”
This is a surprisingly common phenomenon. Facebook data analysis shows that 95% of gambling related social media posts are either about massive wins, or people who only missed one leg of a massive multi.
So we can therefore conclude that online gambling companies across Australia must be losing a LOT of money.
Surely a GoFundMe for the gambling industry is just around the corner.
