Parents feel that someone should’ve warned them about Up.

“So we were feeling a bit dusty on Sunday morning and decided to put on a movie for the kids. Now we’re both a blubbering mess.”

On Sunday morning, Albert (36) and Ruan (34) McDermott were nursing mild hangovers and decided to whack on a DVD for their two children.

They chose "Up", because it looked like a cute movie that will keep the kids entertained.

No one warned them it’s way more than just a cute film.

It starts out harmlessly enough, with the story of Carl and Ellie growing up, falling in love, getting married and moving in together.

Ruan informed us that she wasn’t emotionally ready for what happened next.

“All of a sudden, Ellie suffers a miscarriage. She’s then told she’s infertile. This isn’t what we signed up for on a dusty Sunday morning.”

“Oh and then they remember their childhood dream of visiting Paradise Falls. They try to save for the trip for many years, but keep needing to spend the money on other things. When Carl finally scrapes together the money for the trip, his wife falls ill and fucking dies. Are you kidding me?!”

Just to be clear, they loved it and thought it was one of the most beautiful kids’ movies they’d ever seen. But they just would have liked to be warned.

One scene particularly affected Albert.

“Yeah that bit where the old bugger is looking at the scrapbook of photos of him and his wife. I was a bloody mess. I generally prefer not to confront themes of aging, loss and inevitable death first thing on a Sunday morning.”

Albert and Ruan both agreed they will definitely watch it again. But they’ll do it when they’re a bit less fragile next time.
