Ordinarily, a match will have one winner and one loser. Occasionally, you will have a tie. However, given the unprecedented recent form of both sides, we may witness history tomorrow.
When two footy teams go to war, there can only be one winner and one loser. No matter how bad the match, one team will be slightly less shit than the other and win.
However, never in the history of sport have two teams come together with combined recent form as bad as the Knights and Titans this weekend.
The Gold Coast Titans have been absolutely dreadful all year, and haven’t won a match since round 14. They have sacked their coach and are riddled with injury.
The Newcastle Knights have recently completely imploded, also sacking their coach and missing a few players. They also appear to have given up on their season, putting in a putrid performance last week despite being a theoretical finals chance at that stage.
It is also expected to be a wet playing surface, so the ball handling of the teams may somehow be even worse than over the last few weeks.
Such is the form of the teams that footy experts are expecting history to be made at McDonald Jones Stadium.
It could, according to Phil Gould, be the first ever match that spits out two losing teams.
“I’m predicting the unthinkable here. While other teams are gearing up for finals footy, these two sides are plumbing the depths of just how bad it is possible to play. I honestly can’t see a winner here. I think there will be zero competition points emanating from this game. ”
That’s probably the only fair result.
Then they can share a strawberry milkshake after the game.
