"What kind of music am I into? Oh bit of everything I spose."
Anton Haysen (25) has just started a commercial leasing job at RPC Hyde. He absolutely loves it, and seems to have fitted in straight away. He has started bonding with his colleagues after work each Friday, and they talk freely about all sorts of fun topics. But he is keeping just one card a little close to his chest.
Anton is an extremely affable, open and warm soul, and he gets on very well with his colleagues. But he feels it may be a tad soon to reveal his extreme affinity to Death-Doom: A style of Metal that combines the slow tempos and melancholic atmosphere of Doom Metal with the deep growling vocals and double-kick drumming of Death Metal.
We caught up with him, and asked why he won't share his greatest passion with his new friends.
"Mate I would like to. But it won't go well. Right now, they like me. They like the person that I am, and we have a lot of laughs together. But I've been down this path before. Once I tell them, they will never quite look at me the same again. They won't be hostile or outright rude. They'll just back off a bit. They will treat me like the weird guy at work, even though I’m still the same dude."
We asked him who his favourite band is.
"It's a tough call. I've always loved Autopsy and Dying Bride. But my favourite at the moment would have to be Disembowelment. See. See. See that look you're giving me right now! You just heard those names and now you think I'm a weirdo. I'm not. I don't want to murder your cat. It's just the music that I like. And yes some of the band names are a little weird. I admit that. But the music just does things to me."
"And look if we're ever in the boardroom I'm not going to make everyone listen to it. It's just my guilty pleasure. And right now, I'm loving work and not keen to radically alter anyone's perception of me."
He also told us that, while he loves working at RPC, he can tell that it would be a particularly tough crowd to explain it to.
"Yeah they're a great bunch. But let's just say they all watch Bachie, they all love Ed Sheeran and there is literally no chance that any of these people would be open to giving Death-Doom a listen. Which is fine. We have ourselves a good old fashioned 'each to their own' situation."
He told us that he will eventually tell his colleagues. He just wants to wait until he's really settled in.
Another couple of years at least.
